The World Assembly of Muslim Youth in the Philippines 1st Islamic Assembly for Women was successfully conducted yesterday June 01, 2010 (Tuesday) at Sahara Function Hall, Saduc, Marawi City. The Women’s Department of the World Assembly of Muslim Youth in the Philippines had just finished the realization of its 1st Islamic Assembly for Muslim women with almost hundred participants from various schools, colleges and universities in Marawi City including University Training Center (UTC), Ibn Siena Integrated School Foundation (ISISF), Jamiatu Janoubil Filibbin (JJF), Jamiatu Muslim Mindanao (JMM), Jamiatul Philippines al-Islamie (JPI), Mindanao State University (MSU) Main Campus, Marawi City, Philippine Muslim Teachers’ College Foundation, Inc. (PMTC), Marawi Capitol College Foundation (MCCF), Masiricampo Abantas Memorial Islamic Academy (MAMISA) La Salle Academy, Iligan City, St. Michael’s College, Iligan City and the Center for Muslim Youth Women Auxiliary Services (CMYWAS), of the most active young Muslim women organizations.
The event, which lasted for a day, was conducted purposely to educate young Muslim women about the Islamic Rulings of Ablution and Prayer. Moreover, it was conducted to highlight some common practices that invalidate these two as there are many Muslims regardless of age and gender are not aware of performing them correctly due to improper orientations they have obtained. As such, the Women’s Department of the World Assembly of Muslim Youth in the Philippines included this program into its top priorities to ensure that ablution and prayers are being offered correctly. The program was opened at 8.30 with the recitation of selected Qur’anic verse by Suhayla Sarangani Ahmad Taib, a representative of Jamiatu Janoubil Filibbin, Po-ona Marantao, Marawi City and followed by an opening and welcome address by Alima Samiah Abdulkarim Ampaso of the WAMY-Philippines, Da’wah Department. While waiting for the lecturer’s turn, some impressive shows and presentations related to the topic were performed including Nasheed, Qaseedah, Power Point presentations and drama or stage play. Of the presenters were Wamy-Philippine scholars, who took the part of performing drama, nasheed and multimedia presentation on common reasons of missing prayers and etc. and representatives of the Center for Muslim Youth Women Auxiliary Services (CMYWAS) performed a drama on common malpractices while performing prayer and nasheed as well. The presentations took one and half hour. Later at 10.30am Alim Abdul Rahman “Abu Thabit” Saripada Alando began his lecture on Ablution and Prayer: Legislations, conditions and elements. After that, listeners were given 15 minutes to ask questions, and then followed by question and answer session, the most challenging but exciting part of the program of that day as prizes were given directly after the question has been answered. The program was ended at 3.00pm with closing remark and recitation of Du’a by Alima Fatmah Gunda of Da’wah Department.
